Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is proud to celebrate two outstanding individuals honored with distinguished awards. Felicia Brown, a teacher at Stoney Point Elementary School, is receiving the Extra Mile Award for "going above and beyond" to keep students safe. Pastor Mike Williams, a dedicated supporter of Gray's Creek Middle and High schools, has been honored with the Committed Community Support Award for his outstanding dedication and positive impact on the community.
Extra Mile Award Recipient Felicia Brown
The Extra Mile Award honors employees who consistently 'go above and beyond,' demonstrating outstanding performance and inspiring others to strive for excellence.
Felicia Brown, who is March’s recipient, was selected because of her compassion and ability to act quickly to care for a non-responsive student in need of help on a bus while she served as a substitute bus driver. During the incident, she assessed that the student was dehydrated and quickly asked a senior rider who lived nearby to go home and get an ice pack, assisting the student using the resources available.
Dr. Karlotta Richards, a parent at the school, commented on how Brown provides reassurance for parents. "Professionals like Ms. Brown provide parents with peace of mind that our children are well cared for, knowing that they are able to travel to school and have a safe and positive bus experience."

Committed Community Support Award Recipient Mike Williams
The Committed Community Support Award recognizes individuals or groups for their unwavering dedication and selfless contributions to the school system.
March's winner, Pastor Mike Williams, consistently "shows up" for CCS' students and their families. Some see Pastor Williams of Marvin United Methodist Church as a champion for the Gray's Creek community, while others recognize him as a dedicated school volunteer.
According to those who nominated Pastor Williams—social workers Vanessa Wade of Gray's Creek High School and Alison McDonald of Gray's Creek Middle School—he organizes a monthly meal at his church to support members of the Gray's Creek community. He has also helped coordinate and deliver gift cards during Christmas, assisted in restoring water to a home and carried out other acts of kindness to support families throughout the area. "Pastor Williams is the epitome of a humble humanitarian who 'goes above and beyond' to support," said Wade and McDonald. "He unselfishly and tirelessly donates his time, service and heart to the children and families of this community."
