What is the School Health Advisory Council? (SHAC)

The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is an advisory group comprised of community members from the health and education segments of Cumberland County.  Collectively, the council represents the ten components of the Whole School, Whole Community Whole Child, or WSCC model, for addressing health in schools (Physical education and physical activity, nutrition environment and services, health education, social and emotional climate, physical environment, health services, counseling, psychological and social services, employee wellness, community involvement, and family engagement).  The council provides advice to our school system on aspects of school health programs, as well as review and update the local wellness policy.
