Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is excited to recognize the outstanding recipients of these two prestigious awards. Glenda McDonald, the cafeteria manager at Ponderosa Elementary School, is being recognized with the Extra Mile Award for her dedication to ensuring that students have what they need. Gail Jackson, a supportive volunteer at Pine Forest High School, has been selected for the Committed Community Support Award for her exceptional commitment and impact on the community.
Extra Mile Award Recipient Glenda McDonald
The Extra Mile Award celebrates employees who consistently demonstrate exceptional performance and inspire others to achieve excellence.
Glenda McDonald, who is February’s recipient, was selected because of her compassion and concern for students and staff at the school. She takes the time to listen to everyone, as well as ensure that students don't go hungry.
Valerie Branch, a cashier and helper in the cafeteria, commented on how McDonald assists those who need her support. "From the time I start work to the time I get off, she is making sure the staff and students have what they need," said Branch. "Compassion, love, kindness, whatever you want to put there, Ms. Glenda is that person."

Committed Community Support Award Recipient Gail Jackson
The Committed Community Support Award honors an individual or group for their dedicated and selfless contributions to the school system.
February's winner, Gail Jackson, supports Pine Forest High School and the students in various ways all while helping to rear her granddaughter. She has been a volunteer for more than 19 years! Jackson, affectionately referred to as 'Mama Gail,' has been said to provide the services that she gives with love and care.
According to Manuela Smith, an art teacher at Pine Forest, Jackson ensures that the school's birthday, athletics and media center bulletin boards are decorated and updated monthly. She also works late into the evenings and volunteers at school games. "These are just a few of the many selfless things that Mama Gail does for us here at Pine Forest," said Smith. "We love Gail and would be lost without her."
