Cumberland County Schools (CCS) will transition to an asynchronous remote learning day on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, due to icy road conditions in certain parts of the county. While many main roads are clear, district officials conducted a thorough review this afternoon and found that several side roads remain unsafe for travel. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing overnight through mid-morning, making it unlikely that these conditions will improve before tomorrow. CCS employees will work remotely on Friday.
Closures and Cancellations for Friday
All students will complete assignments independently at home on Friday. Elementary and middle school students have five days to submit their work, while high school students have three days. Students in classes at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College or College Connections should contact their instructors for specific guidance.
All district events and after-school activities scheduled for Friday are canceled. The Prime Time Before and After School Program will not operate. District offices and school buildings will be closed, with employees working remotely. Essential employees should await guidance from their supervisors.
Closures and Cancellations for the Weekend
All weekend activities, including events scheduled to take place on Saturday, Jan. 25, or Sunday, Jan. 26, are canceled to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
When making decisions, CCS considers all areas of the county to prioritize the safety of students, staff and families.
For more information and updates, visit the district’s website or follow CCS on social media.
