At the regular monthly meeting of the Cumberland County Board of Education (CCBOE) this evening, Board leadership roles for 2025 were approved and the newly elected and re-elected Board members were sworn into office.
2025 Board Leadership
Deanna Jones, who has served on the Board since May 2020, was re-elected to serve as the chairwoman of the Board. Judy Musgrave, a member of the Board since 2014, was elected as the vice chairwoman of the Board.
During the meeting, the Board acknowledged the leadership of Jones and the former vice chairman, Nathan Warfel, with a special token of appreciation. Thereafter, Jones reflected on the Board's work in 2024 while looking to a new year made up of new Board members.
"It has been an experience, filled with opportunities to address important matters and work toward strengthening our schools and supporting our students," said Jones. "This coming year, with half of our Board comprised of new members, we enter a period of learning and growth. While there is much to absorb, I am confident that by working together, we will navigate this transition successfully and continue to move our district forward. Our collective efforts and diverse perspectives will strengthen the important work we do."

During a special swearing-in ceremony, the following Board members took the oath of office:
Susan Williams representing District 5
Deanna Jones representing District 2
Delores Bell representing District 3
Jackie Warner representing District 4
Dr. Terra Jordan representing District 6
Dr. Mary Hales representing District 1
Williams and Jones were re-elected to the Board. Williams has been a Board member for three terms, starting in 2012 while Jones has served one term since 2020.
