Cumberland County Schools is proud to announce that Tanisha Dumas, a school counselor at W.H. Owen Elementary, was recently selected as a 2024 Dr. Patty Diversity Fellow—one of only 10 honorees across the United States. This prestigious fellowship recognizes women of color licensed in social work, counseling, education or school psychology who are committed to empowering girls and fostering a more equitable world. As a Fellow, Dumas will be trained to lead a 20-week evidence-based curriculum addressing critical challenges girls face, including confidence, body image, social media, relationships and leadership. The fellowship, which includes two years of ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences) programming, provides comprehensive resources such as facilitator training, professional development and program costs. “Each year, we select a cohort of women who are passionate about changing the lives of girls in their schools,” said Dr. Sibyl West, Senior Advisor to the Dr. Patty Diversity Fellowship. “They are charismatic leaders in their communities and bring a unique bond to this work.” Congratulations to Tanisha Dumas on this exceptional achievement!
