Cumberland County Schools (CCS) announces the November recipients of two highly sought-after awards. The Student Information System (SIS) support team from CCS’ Information Technology Department has been recognized with the Extra Mile Award. Brandon Price, CEO of Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, along with his team, have been selected as the recipients of the Committed Community Support Award for their outstanding support and dedication to CCS.

Extra Mile Award Recipients: Student Information System Support Team

The Extra Mile Award recognizes employees who consistently exhibit outstanding performance and inspire others to strive for excellence.

The Student Information System Support Team, November's Extra Mile Award recipient, was selected because of their invaluable help during a recent change to a new SIS in a very short amount of time. Data managers have depended on their assistance during this critical period.

Carla Madison, data manager at Walker-Spivey Elementary, spoke about the impact that the team has made. "The hours they have spent learning a whole new way of doing things so we could continue to do our jobs is heartwarming," said Madison. "They have shown support, compassion, knowledge and laughs (so we don't cry) while learning this new day-to-day life."

Members of the SIS team include: SIS Support Manager Patricia Lindsey; SIS Support Specialist Pamala Barron; SIS Support Trainer Jennifer Chapman; SIS Support Specialist Loralee Mitchell; SIS Support Specialist Susan Gower; and retirees Melba Jackson and Melissa Barbour.

Committed Community Support Award Recipient: Brandon Price and Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity

The Committed Community Support Award honors an individual or group for their dedicated and selfless contributions to the school system. November's winners, Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity and its CEO, Brandon Price, collaborated with eight high schools in spring 2024 to bring their Trades Days program to students. High school students learned about the trades industry, tool and site safety, and how to build a toolbox.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Special Populations Coordinator Amber Wall shared insight about the program's success. "The program specifically changes a student's trajectory in life with the hope of convincing the student to stay in school rather than dropping out," Wall said. "They (FAHFH) are an all-around amazing organization, and we are working to continue the partnership for the 2024-25 school year with even more memorable and impactful experiences.
