This morning, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) proudly celebrated around 70 more students who successfully marched across the stage to receive their diplomas, demonstrating their readiness for a career, college and life.
During CCS' 2024 Summer Graduation Ceremony, faculty, staff and students from 10 high schools in the district and their guests gathered in the auditorium at South View High School to celebrate the students' hard work and acknowledge their perseverance.
Dr. Tre'vone McNeill, a graduate of Seventy-First High School, delivered the commencement address where he encouraged the graduates to always believe in themselves.
"You're going to encounter days after this that will make you question your intelligence but, I'm here to tell you that you're smarter than you thought you were. Look at where you're sitting today," said Dr. McNeill. "You're going to encounter people who aren't so friendly and want to destroy your determination but, I want you to remember that you fought to get here and you have it in you to get to the next level, too."
Memorable moments from the ceremony featured solo performances by Douglas Byrd High School Director of Bands, Dominic Hunter, who played the National Anthem on saxophone, and Reid Ross Classical School Administrative Assistant Jared Payton sang "Wind Beneath My Wings."
