Fayetteville, N.C. – Due to concerns about COVID-19 and in consultation with school principals, athletic directors and health officials, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) will delay summer athletic workouts indefinitely. This guidance also applies to other extra-curricular activities such as band camps.

According to a statement released by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) earlier today, the start of NCHSAA fall sports is delayed until at least September 1.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff,” said Vernon Aldridge, the director of CCS Student Activities. “As we receive more concrete guidance from NCHSAA regarding the resumption of fall sports, we will update families.”

The district continues to follow guidance from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Cumberland County Department of Public Health.
