CCS’ Basketball Teams Play to Benefit the Fight Against Cancer

Throughout January and February, Cumberland County Schools Basketball Teams will take to the hardwood to fight against cancer. Local school teams will use their games to raise and donate money to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through the Play4Kay efforts.

CCS’ Basketball Teams will be hosting Play4Kay games according to the following schedule:
January 22 —  St. Pauls at South View
January 24 —  Pine Forest at Douglas Byrd
January 28 — Douglas Byrd at EE Smith
January 31 — Douglas Byrd at Cape Fear
January 31– Terry Sanford at Gray’s Creek
February 4 — Purnell Swett at Jack Britt
February 4 — Scotland at Seventy-First
February 7 — Terry Sanford at Westover
February 7 — EE Smith at Pine Forest
February 11 — South View at Terry Sanford
 
Former head coach of N.C. State Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Team (1975 – 2009) Kay Yow fought an on-again, off-again battle with the disease in the public arena to inspire others to make a difference in a fight that impacts each and everyone one of us, according to the Cancer Fund’s Website. Yow’s goal for Play4Kay events was to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in its support of advanced research and to serve the underserved.
