Fayetteville, NC – Maureen Stover got the shock of a lifetime this afternoon. As she rounded the corner of the J. Knuckles Building on the campus of Fayetteville State University, she saw and heard yells and cheers from the faculty, staff and student body at Cumberland International Early College High School (CIECHS).

The science teacher and CCS’ 2020 Teacher of the Year was announced by Sandhills Regional Educator Facilitator Tina Starr and the 2019 North Carolina Teacher of the Year Mariah Morris as the 2020 Sandhills Regional Teacher of the Year winner.

“I get to be a phenomenal teacher because I have phenomenal kids,” said Stover. “So, I thank you all so much for coming to school every day and being excited about learning.”

Stover will go on to compete against eight other regional winners from across North Carolina for the state title. According to Starr, interviews are scheduled for January 31 at the Umstead in Cary.

The 2020 North Carolina Teacher of the Year winner will be announced in April.
