Fayetteville, NC – Each month through Cumberland County Schools’ Amazing Acts of Character recognition program, schools are asked to nominate students who display character above and beyond expected behavior.

One student was recently selected from individual school nominations for displaying ‘amazing acts of character’ and will be recognized during the Cumberland County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of CCS’ Central Services building:

Patience Weddel, an 8th grader at Gray’s Creek Middle School (GCMS) – According to GCMS Student Council Co-Adviser Karin Ghent, the 13-year-old student council president is “a very responsible young lady and rises to every challenge presented to her.” Recently, the student council hosted a Middle Level Leadership Workshop in Reidsville, NC. Ghent said that for two days, Patience stood in front of 110 people and conducted workshops, introduced guest speakers and instructed students during various leadership activities. At times, Patience was flexible enough to adjust to last-minute changes in each day’s ever-changing agenda. “She was very professional and displayed great responsibility for someone her age,” said Ghent. “She even took the responsibility of cleaning out the bus on our return to school.”

The Amazing Acts of Character Committee selects winners based on school nominations. The winners are then recognized at the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, where they are presented a special trophy and certificate.
