Fayetteville, NC – During Wednesday’s leadership meeting, in front of a room full of principals and district leaders, Dr. Mindy Vickers, a director of CCS’ School Support Services, was announced as the recipient of the 2018-2019 Dr. Joseph Locklear/Ricky Lopes Central Services Employee of the Year Award.

“There is no greater honor than to receive the Dr. Joseph Locklear/Ricky Lopes Central Services Employee of the Year Award,” said Vickers. “There is no better job than supporting principals in the Cumberland County Schools and serving our students.”

As a school support director, Vickers visits schools daily to dialogue with principals and other staff members to support school needs. She also coaches principals on how to implement best practices in order to increase student success. Prior to assuming her current role in 2011, Vickers served as the principal of Terry Sanford High School.

A principal who nominated Dr. Vickers for the award stated, “I am nominating Dr. Vickers for this award because of her dedication to our students, faculty, staff and administration. She is a supportive leader who exemplifies excellence and expects excellence from her principals. She is fair and consistent, and she diligently works to ensure each school leader has what we need to be successful in our schools.”

This award was established in 2016 to honor the legacy of Dr. Joseph Locklear and Ricky Lopes. Both of these school administrators gave unselfishly to the Cumberland County Schools for many years. The school system created this award to honor their legacy and recognize deserving employees for their outstanding work. Each year, the district’s Principal of the Year chairs a committee that selects the award winner. Principals are asked to nominate Central Services’ employees who they feel are deserving of this recognition. CCS’ 2019 Principal of the Year, Michael Tucker, served as the chair of the selection committee.

Additional staff members nominated for this year’s award include Dr. Mary Black, Dr. Jane Fields, Jody Hawley, Alana Hix, Larry Johnson, Olivia Martinez, Saundra McNeill and Dr. Theresa Perry.
