Fayetteville, NC – Through a unanimous vote, members of the Cumberland County Board of Education approved the district’s instructional materials adoption for mathematics last night during its monthly meeting. The approval means that students in elementary and high school math courses across the Cumberland County Schools (CCS) system will have new materials for the 2019-2020 school year. Middle school materials were selected in 2018.

This move puts K-5 Mathematics, Math I, Math II, Math III and AP Statistics and Calculus materials in the hands of children while aligning learning and teaching in all elementary and high school classrooms across the county.

“This adoption allows us to respond to the requests of our educators and provide each student with access to high-quality resources,” said Dr. Stacey Wilson-Norman, the chief academic officer of CCS’ Academic Services. “We are thankful to our school board and superintendent for listening and addressing the needs of our classrooms and ensuring that we have the tools necessary to support rigorous learning experiences for our students.”

The adoption of materials spans from 2019 – 2024 and aligns with the development of new standards by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for the next five through seven years.

In selecting the new math resources, CCS’ teachers and principals served on the Instructional Materials Advisory and participated in a Math Materials Adoption Road Show along with the community-at-large.

According to district administrators, the selections that were made are the highest rated in mathematics education. The materials are expected to arrive in the district by late June.
