They provide important services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve their academic success.

“Our social workers are making a tremendous difference in our schools,” said CCS’ Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. “The work that social workers do on a daily basis often takes place behind the scenes; however, we reap the benefits in the form of lower dropout rates, increased school attendance and positive school cultures.”

During the celebration, Vanessa Wade, school social worker at Gray’s Creek High School, was announced as the 2019 Social Worker of the Year.

“It is very humbling to have been nominated by my administrators for Social Worker of the Year in recognition of my work with children at our school,” said Wade. “I am extremely honored to have been selected by my peers for this amazing award.”

Pam Story, CCS’ social work coordinator added, “Vanessa has a wealth of experience. She’s coming from so many diverse backgrounds. She loves the community, she’s a part of that community, the children flock to her, and the community stakeholders recognize her. She is it. We’re so proud of her, and I can’t think of a more appropriate winner than Vanessa Wade.”
