The words make up days written in red on white signFayetteville, NC – Due to Hurricane Florence, students in the Cumberland County Schools (CCS) lost several days of valuable classroom instruction. Earlier this week, the State provided CCS with calendar flexibility, which eliminated the requirement for CCS to make up all of the days missed because of the hurricane. However, in the interest of preserving instructional time for students, the Board voted to approve the following make-up days as full instructional days for students. Previously, some of the days were teacher workdays and two-hour early release days.

“Hurricane Florence caused our young people to lose some valuable instructional time,” said CCS’ Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. “As we work daily to raise student achievement, we are committed to making certain that our students get the education they deserve. These make-up days will provide our teachers with additional time to cover essential content with our students.”
