North Carolina Department of Public Instruction LogoFayetteville, NC – The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) recently awarded the Cumberland County Schools (CCS) a $174,098 school safety grant for the 2018-2019 school year. These funds were allocated under the School Safety Grants Program that was launched last year with funding from the General Assembly.

“We are ecstatic to receive the School Safety Equipment Grant from NCDPI,” said Bruce Morrison, director of CCS’ Safety and Security. “Their support for school safety in Cumberland County will make a significant impact on the lives and safety of our students and staff. This funding will strengthen our Safety and Security Program, helping us to increase security measures in our schools.”

CCS will use the grant to upgrade essential safety and security equipment, including front entry systems, steel window screens for entryways and impact resistant window film for cafeterias and other exposed areas in nine schools. The grant will also provide two-way radios and communication base stations for 27 schools.
