New Superintendent Takes Oath of Office
Before a standing-room-only crowd, Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr., the newly hired Cumberland County Schools’ Superintendent, took the oath of office with his wife, Joyce Connelly, by his side. The oath was administered by Cumberland County District Court Judge Edward Pone.
After being sworn in, Dr. Connelly thanked the Board for the opportunity to lead the Cumberland County Schools. In his brief comments, he said that his focus will be on “getting students 4-C ready (via critical thinking, creativity, communications, and collaboration)” in order to raise the academic, behavioral, and social/emotional outcomes of students. He also announced his desire to engage the community in local education which will be highlighted during the Connelly Listens to Cumberland County Citizens (CLC3) Listening Tour this fall.
Members of the Board personally congratulated Dr. Connelly and Board Chair Carrie Sutton read personal letters of congratulations from Gov. Roy Cooper and U.S. Representative David Price.
