Logo for the Integrated Systems Technology Academy of EngineeringThe mission of the Integrated Systems Technology Academy of Engineering (ISTA of E) at Jack Britt High School is to provide students the opportunity to study and learn technical design, engineering concepts, and the skills needed to compete in the global job market. ISTA of E provides students with a rigorous pre-engineering curriculum that is centered around student-driven problem-based learning, offering courses in Engineering Drafting, Integrated Systems Technology, and Principles of Technology. This rigorous curriculum incorporates robotics, pneumatics/hydraulics, electronics, computer-aided design (CAD), applied physics laws, and mathematical operations. During the 2018-2019 school year, the Academy will introduce a new ABB Robot 120 to the curriculum. This addition will provide the students the opportunity to certify in an area of robotics.

Outside of the classroom, ISTA of E students participate in work-based learning events and competitions. Some of the opportunities are North Carolina State Universities’ Sustainable Transportation Energy Program (STEP), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Swarmathon, the North Carolina Department of Transportation Bridge Building Competition, and the Central Carolina Community College Laser Faire.
