Cumberland County Board of Education
The Cumberland County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m., in the Central Services Board Room, with the following board members present: Susan Williams, Carrie Sutton, Peggy Hall, Donna Vann, Porcha McMillan, Greg West, Alicia Chisolm, Judy Musgrave and Rudy Tatum. Others present were Interim Superintendent Tim Kinlaw, Associate Superintendents Ron Phipps, Clyde Locklear, Ruben Reyes, Betty Musselwhite and Mary Black; Board Attorney Nick Sojka; representatives of the principals association, media representative, district PTA representative, representatives of the NCAEOP and representatives of the teacher assistants association.
Chairman Carrie Sutton called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Our Pledge of Allegiance was led by Peggy Hall, followed by the invocation by Donna Vann.
The Board RECOGNIZED Student Representatives Daniel Peede, Student Government representative from Pine Forest High School and Nyjah Henry, Student Government Representative from Reid Ross High School. Daniel and Nyjah were given the opportunity to address the Board on a topic of their choice.

The Board RECOGNIZED the 2018 NC Support Personnel Award Winner – Carol Stubbs

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA
Upon a motion by Greg West, seconded by Susan Williams, the agenda, as presented, was adopted unanimously by the Board.
Chairman Carrie Sutton called for a motion to approve the CONSENT AGENDA.
Upon motion by Alicia Chisolm, seconded by Donna Vann, the following Consent Agenda items were approved unanimously by the Board:
5.01 CONSIDER Approval of the Minutes of the March 13, 2018 Board Meeting
DISCUSSION AGENDA: Curriculum Committee Report – Judy Musgrave
10.01 CONSIDER Approval of Renewing Ongoing agreement between NCDPI and the Cumberland County consortium for Medicaid claims
Upon a motion by Peggy Hall, seconded by Greg West, the Board unanimously approved the renewal of the ongoing agreement between NCDPI and the Cumberland County consortium for Medicaid claims.
DISCUSSION AGENDA: Policy Committee Report – Peggy Hall
13.01 CONSIDER Closed Session Pursuant to N.C.G.S 143-318.11(A)(1) to prevent the disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential under N.C.G.S. 115C-319. Upon a motion by Carrie Sutton, seconded by Susan Williams, the Board voted unanimously to go INTO Closed Session at 6:58 pm.
Upon a motion by Susan Williams, seconded by Greg West, the following Board members voted to come OUT of Closed Session at 8:15 pm: Susan Williams, Greg West, Carrie Sutton, Porcha McMillan, Judy Musgrave, Rudy Tatum, Alicia Chisolm and Peggy Hall. Donna Vann was not in the room at the time of the vote.
Mr. Kinlaw reminded everyone of the State Superintendent’s visit planned for Friday.
Ms. Sutton thanked our Student Officers and citizens for attending our meeting this evening and invited everyone to our next meeting on May 15, 2018.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.
