70 Orchestra Students Display their Musical Talents

students playing instruments during the all-county orchestra concert in 2016The Cumberland County Schools will hold its 13th Annual All-County Orchestra Clinic on Friday, November 17 and culminating Concert on Saturday, November 18 at 4:00 p.m. The event will be held in the auditorium at Gray’s Creek High School (5301 Celebration Drive, Hope Mills). 

The CCS’ Arts Education program selected the 70 high school orchestra students through an audition process. 

Selections to be performed by the All-County Orchestra are of varying styles and technical difficulty and will include:

Romanian Folk Dances by Bela Bartok/arr. D. Monday
Nimrod by Edward Elgar/arr. M. Bender
Incantations by Richard Myer
Fantasy on Simple Gifs arr. R. Kerr
Hoe Down from Rodeo by Aaron Copland/arr. S. Bulla

This year’s All-County Orchestra Clinician is Dr. Annalisa Chang, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Music Education at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. She received her Ph. D. in Music Education from Florida State University. Dr. Chang also holds degrees (M.M. and B.M.) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. Dr. Chang was at one time a member of the CCS Orchestra faculty where she taught at Douglas Byrd Middle and High schools, Ireland Drive Middle School, and Mary McArthur Elementary School.

The All-County Orchestra Concert is FREE and open to the public.
