1st place winner- Anil G. from Seventy-First Classical Middle School holding trophy

Congratulations to Anil Gordon, a student at Seventy-First Classical Middle School, for receiving fourth-place honors in the Modern Woodmen of America’s 2017 National School Contest, held July 13-14.

The eighth grader, who received a medallion for this honor, competed against 23 other students from across the country. According to a representative from Modern Woodmen of America, the judges thought Anil’s speech showed “tremendous talent and effort.”

Contest officials said that nearly 90,000 students participated at the local/school level by sharing their thoughts about this year’s speech topic: “What does it mean to be a hero?”
