Student Government leaders Emma West from Terry Sanford High School and Hannah McCarthy from Massey Hill Classical High School served as the ex-officio members of the Cumberland County Board of Education during the meeting. Ex-officio members are given the opportunity to make comments, ask questions, and give input on any topic brought before the Board.
Accounting Firm Chosen for Annual Audit
The Board awarded a contract to Cherry Bekaert LLP of Asheboro, NC, to perform the school system’s annually required financial audit. The firm will be auditing the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.
Board Approves FTCC Board of Trustees Appointee
The Board unanimously approved reappointing CCS’ Retiree Delores P. Ingram to serve as a trustee on the Fayetteville Technical Community College Board of Trustees.
Betty Musselwhite, the associate superintendent of School Support Services, introduced one of February’s Amazing Acts of Character Award recipients who was unable to attend March’s Board meeting. Student Honoree Ja’Brilyn Chandler from Westover High School was recognized for displaying ‘acts of good character’ above and beyond expected behavior. Members of the Board extended personal congratulations to him.
Board Chair Greg West briefly recognized the Seventy-First High School PTSA as a National PTA School of Excellence. Also, West congratulated Superintendent Dr. Frank Till for being the recipient of the 2017 Raymond Sarbaugh Leadership Award.
