First Place Sweepstakes Winner 2017 Middle School Forensic County Tournament Seventy-First Classical Middle School

The County Tournament for the Middle School Forensic program of Cumberland County Schools was held on Saturday, March 4, 2017.  The Middle School Forensic program is an extracurricular activity designed to enhance the personal and academic growth of its participants.  Its activities focus on the use of higher order thinking in the appreciation and interpretation of literature through performance and the enhancement of research and writing skills for public speaking.  New Century International Middle School served as the host school with Isaac Frazier as the host coach for the countywide tournament.  Special thanks go to Mr. Frazier, Lavette McMillan, New Century Middle School principal and her faculty and staff for providing excellent hospitality and a great day of competition. 

The county tournament serves as the culminating event for a season of competition that also includes 3 Fall Festivals, 3 Mini-tournaments, 2 District tournaments.  Over 230 middle school students from all 16 CCS middle schools competed for First through Tenth Place in three rounds of competition.  Students participated in the Speech and Debate categories of Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Duo Interpretation, Storytelling and Public Forum.  First, through Fourth place Sweepstakes Awards were also given to those schools that accumulated the most points through student placement.
