The winning word was “paparazzo.” Kendal will be the third PFMS student to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee after Xavier Barnes’ win in 2008 and Benjamin Palmer’s win in 2005.

Kendal competes in a number of academic clubs at PFMS, including Battle of the Books. She was in the library with her English Language Arts class on Friday when Principal Billy Starks came over the announcements to share her win with the school. The students in the library erupted with cheers for her.

“Kendal is a wonderful student, ” says Mr. Starks, “and we are so proud of her. Our Raider family will be praying for safe travels for her and her family.”

The 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee will start on Sunday, May 28 and will end on Sunday, June 4, 2017.
