Legislative Breakfast Scheduled
Members of the Board agreed to schedule a meeting with the local Legislative Delegation on Friday, February 3 to discuss the Board’s priorities for the year.
Student Government leaders Tatiana Onley from Seventy-First High School and Mykayla Williams from Cross Creek Early College High School served as the ex-officio members of the Cumberland County Board of Education during the meeting. Ex-officio members are given the opportunity to make comments, ask questions, and give input on any topic brought before the Board.
Betty Musselwhite, the associate superintendent of School Support Services, introduced the following group of honorees to the Board:
Cumberland County Schools’ Champion of Children Award Recipients – Instructional Assistants Delores Bell and Jackie Brown from South View Middle School, Custodian Grady “Cliff” Lovick from District 7 Elementary School, and Principal Dr. Sheldon Harvey at Lewis Chapel Middle School were recognized as educators who are making a difference in our schools every day. These four are the first-ever recipients of the school system’s newly created Champion for Children Award.
November & December’s Amazing Acts of Character – November 2016 Honoree Hailey Blair from Gray’s Creek Middle School and December Honorees Maggie Kane from Long Hill Elementary School, Miranda Draughon from Gray’s Creek Elementary School, and Jayden Townsend from Morganton Road Elementary School were recognized for displaying ‘acts of good character’ above and beyond expected behavior. Members of the Board extended personal congratulations to each child.
