Seventy-First Student Knows ‘The Power of the Image’

Seventy-First High School senior Sade Wilson and her Art Instructor Nancy Snyder recently participated in a special Teen Symposium conducted by The North Carolina Museum of Art called “The Power of the Image”. The Symposium began with a seminar in which teachers and students from across the state learned how the visual image is a powerful tool for influencing human emotions and actions. Taking what they learned back to the schools, teachers conducted their own workshops for interested students and encouraged them to submit photographic images depicting social issues to the museum for a competition. The competition was the culmination of the symposium. Sade’s photograph was selected for an exhibition of the competition winners which was on display in the museum’s education wing from October 23, 2012 until January 7, 2013. The exhibition is now going on the road to various locations throughout the state.  Sade plans to become a photo journalist.
