Volunteering with area non-profits allows students to explore new interests, learn new skills, educate themselves about the community they live in, and improve college prospects with community service. “This is a win-win for our community,” said Anna Rodriguez, Military Family and Youth Liaison for CCS. “Students are indirectly educating their families on agency services, agencies are getting a helping hand, and we’re building another generation of UW supporters who see what a little bit of sweat equity can do for the community.” Students will be able to select projects by browsing a database of area non-profits. Based on their level of interest and the non profit’s mission, students will gain valuable insight into the inner workings of the service and non-profit sectors while being a catalyst for change in their community. Area high schools will have a Live United Student Volunteer Program coordinator who will counsel students and oversee the input of volunteer hours in CCS’ Edmodo system.
