Cumberland County Board of Education
The Cumberland County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 6:30 p.m., in the Board Room, with the following Board members present: Larry Lancaster, Alicia Chisolm, Carrie Sutton, Kim Fisher, Macky Hall, James McLauchlin, Michael Boose and Greg West. Others present were Superintendent Frank Till, Associate Superintendents Ricky Lopes, Tim Kinlaw, Betty Musselwhite, Joseph Locklear, Allison Violette, Mary Black and Ron Phipps; Executive Director Patricia Hollingsworth; Board Attorney David Phillips; Youth Education Support Services Director Glenda Mack, CCAE Representative Mr. Sorce, representatives of the principals association and representatives of the teacher assistants.
Chairman Larry Lancaster called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Macky Hall, followed by brief tribute to recently deceased Board Member Mary Emily Royal by Larry Lancaster. Mr. Mack Royal was called on to speak on behalf of the Royal family. Dr. McLauchlin brought the invocation.
The Board heard from no speakers during the Public Forum.
The Board RECOGNIZED Student Representative Alejandro Benitez, Student Government Association President at Cumberland International Early College High School. Alejandro was given the opportunity to address the Board on a topic of his choice.

Mr. Lancaster called for a motion to approve the CONSENT AGENDA.
Upon motion by Greg West seconded by Alicia Chisolm, the following Consent Agenda items were approved by unanimously by the Board: (Exception – Greg West abstained from voting on item 3.07)

r) CONSIDER Approval of Rescinding Certain Board Policies as recommended by the Policy/Student Assignment Committee
Dr. Frank Till shared plans for the Ribbon – Cutting Ceremony for Cumberland International Early College.
Dr. Till notified the Board that he is working on Legislation with Board Member, Michael Boose. They are planning for a Legislative Committee meeting on an upcoming Committee Meeting day in the very near future.
Mr. Lancaster reminded everyone that October 15 – 19 is National School Lunch Week and the 9th Annual Reading Rocks Walk will take place on October 20th.
Mr. Lancaster thanked everyone for attending the Board meeting tonight.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:58 pm.
