CCS Embraces National Red Ribbon Campaign
In support of the National Red Ribbon Campaign, October 23-31 has been proclaimed by the Board as Red Ribbon Week. During this time, schools are encouraged to sponsor drug prevention education activities as a show of support for a drug-free community. The National Family Partnership For a Drug–Free North Carolina and Cumberland County C.A.R.E.S. (Coalition for Awareness, Resources and Education of Substances) are sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign, which offers citizens the opportunity to display their dedication to a drug-free lifestyle. According to the proclamation, alcohol and other drug abuse have been identified as one of the greatest threats to the future of our nation. The 15- to 24-year old age group is dying at an alarming rate.

Redistricting Plan for Board Electoral Districts Gets ‘Thumbs Up’
Members of the Board approved a redistricting plan regarding their electoral districts. After getting input from the public, an alternative plan was developed based on the need to correct population imbalances and voter representation. The plan, which does not involve student assignment or redistricting, will be submitted in the coming weeks to the U.S. Department of Justice for formal approval.
